Jungho Jung
Jung Jungho studied journalism and photography at university. While he was interested in natural phenomena and the aesthetic form of materials in his early work and represented this in photography, he now works in photography and video, paying attention primarily to changes in regions and hidden stories.

He has produced such works as Architype 7017 capturing a process of which the overpass adjacent to Seoul Railway Station is transformed into a park; Archive: Machine, Car and City featuring scenes of Janganpyeong, an area of Seoul which was a mecca of used cars but presently is on the verge of stagnation and extinction; Leisure Town documenting deformed scenes of a tourist city nearby Daebudo in the West Sea; and Buddha and Magohalmi seeking Amitabha Buddha and Magohalmi, a cosmogonic goddess in Korean creation myths for which the artist contacted local shamans and historians in the process of investigating unique local place names.

Jung, who often builds a relationship with local residents, has also experimented with how their life and space can turn into art through his joint work with other artists. Included in this type of work are Finding Seongam Song, a documentary video for which Jung composed a song based on interviews with Seongamdo residents and featuring aspects of their lives altered by the regionโ€™s development and environmental change; Master of Nakwon (the Most Beautiful Book of Korea selected by Korean Publishers Association) in which the hands of 100 instrument making masters working in Nakwon Sangga are photographed, and are likened to the history and symbol of the region; Coincidence, an object work that represents my familyโ€™s vacant history through the memory of my grandfather who passed away during the Korean War and my trauma arising by chance; and Conservation Tool, a series of photographs commissioned by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea that is a reproduction of conservation science-related tools through men and machines on the boundary between reality and imagination.

He is currently interested in expanding and reconstructing his narratives with a wide range of mediums and takes notice of the documentary aspect of an archive, researching mythology and totemism from a specific region.
